THANK YOU: Community action sends clear message on littering in Park Bridge

An incredible 46 volunteers took time out of their weekends to participate in our Park Bridge community litter pick on Sunday, including 12 volunteers from our friends at Waterloo Action.

Together, the brilliant group removed a huge 51 bags of litter from the village, sending a clear and powerful message that littering in Park Bridge is not acceptable.

We were also pleased to be joined by Waterloo ward Councillors Sangita Patel and Dave Howarth, alongside local election candidates Lee Huntbach (Green) and Tahir Muhammad (Labour), who saw first-hand the scale of the challenge facing the area.

During the litter pick, two significant fly-tipping incidents, which residents had already reported, were further escalated as urgent by the local councillors in attendance.

The sheer scale of dumped waste was shocking, but sadly not unusual, as fly-tipping has become an almost daily issue in Park Bridge.

While this is deeply frustrating for residents and visitors alike, yesterday’s turnout sent a clear and united message that Park Bridge is not a dumping ground.

All collected bags have been reported to the council and will be removed in the coming days.

Community at its best

After the litter pick, it was wonderful to welcome volunteers back to the Park Bridge Institute for a well-earned cup of tea and slice of cake.

Huge thanks to the Institute team for opening their doors and continuing the tradition of community hospitality that has been part of Park Bridge life for generations.

Thank you

A massive thank you to everyone who gave their time, supported the event, helped report fly-tipping, and showed what positive community action can achieve.

This litter pick sent a strong signal that the community cares deeply about Park Bridge, its environment, and its future. While we know that some people will sadly continue to litter or dump waste, that will not deter our efforts.

We will keep coming together to clean up, protect, and care for Park Bridge. Making it a safe, welcoming place for residents, visitors, wildlife and future generations.
