Over the past 24 hours, Park Bridge has experienced significant winter weather, with snow and ice creating hazardous driving and walking conditions across the village.
With temperatures remaining around or below freezing, conditions are unlikely to improve in the coming days.
Although the road through the village was briefly gritted by Tameside Council, snow has fallen since, and untreated sections of road, pavements and paths are now icy and unpredictable.
A yellow weather warning for ice is currently in place, and further snowfall is forecast later this week.
According to the Met Office, the current cold spell is expected to continue, with further snow and ice likely to affect many areas, particularly overnight and in the early mornings. This significantly increases the risk of slips, vehicle skidding and loss of control on untreated roads.

Please take extra care
We are asking everyone travelling through or around Park Bridge to take additional precautions:
For drivers
• Avoid unnecessary journeys through Park Bridge where possible
• Drive at very low speeds, particularly on bends and narrow sections
• Allow extra stopping distance
• Be mindful of pedestrians, runners, cyclists and horse riders, who may be forced closer to the road due to icy verges
For pedestrians and other road users
• Wear suitable footwear and consider high-visibility clothing
• Take extra care on slopes, shaded areas and untreated paths
• Avoid walking close to the road where visibility is reduced
Park Bridge’s narrow roads, blind bends and limited gritting make winter conditions especially challenging.
We urge non-essential through-traffic to avoid the area until conditions improve.
We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates where relevant. In the meantime, please look out for one another and travel only if it is safe to do so.
