Park Bridge Residents’ Action Group & Fund takes the next step

Following the success of our first Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the Park Bridge Institute on Thursday 17th October, we’re pleased to announce that the Park Bridge Residents’ Action Group & Fund has now taken the next step to formally establish itself as a constituted community group.

This is an important milestone in ensuring that the people of Park Bridge, residents and visitors alike, have a strong, organised voice to protect and improve our community, heritage, and environment for generations to come.

At the AGM, the group’s Constitution was formally adopted, and the following officers were elected to represent the group: Sam Rosbottom (Chair), Sally Moxon (Treasurer), Gareth Bennett-Ryan (Secretary). As well as the following general Committee Members: Jane Craggs, Beth Graham and Grace Rosbottom.

Together, the committee will lead on delivering the group’s aims, from heritage projects and environmental monitoring to community engagement and fundraising.

What this means for residents and visitors

Becoming a formal community group gives Park Bridge a stronger, unified voice when working with organisations such as Tameside Council, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and Action Together.

It means we can now:

  • Represent residents and visitors in key discussions about the future of Park Bridge, including road safety, fly-tipping, and the Heritage Centre
  • Encourage volunteering and participation, making it easier for people to get involved at whatever level suits them
  • Organise community events and clean-ups, with access to equipment and support from the Council’s Greenspace team
  • Apply for grants and funding to improve local facilities, protect heritage assets, and support environmental projects

In short, this step helps us turn ideas into action, building a more welcoming, accessible, and sustainable Park Bridge for everyone.

Next Steps

The newly formed committee will now:

  • Finalise the group’s community bank account and begin applying for funding
  • Continue working with Tameside Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund on the future of the Park Bridge Heritage Centre
  • Launch a monthly community clean-up with support from the Council’s Greenspace team
  • Explore FreshWater Watch membership to be able to participate in monthly testing of the River Medlock and have access to river health data
  • Develop opportunities for residents and visitors to share their views through open forum meetings and volunteering
